The Most Famous Cars in Pop Culture

Who hasn’t watched a movie and wanted to be the protagonist, or better yet, get behind the wheel of their car.  Movies pull you in until the credits and in many cases they create admiration for the main character.  However, there are countless times where the car can have a bigger effect than the character.  Here, we take a look at the most popular cars in film and TV.  Add your favorite to the list!

1974 Ford Gran Torino
Referred to as the “Striped Tomato” in the 1975 television series Starsky and Hutch, the car was American muscle immortalized.  The two California detectives it chauffeured were cool, calm, and collective enough to bust wrong doers.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT Spyder
In the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off this ride was used as the conduit of hijinks after some friends skip school.  Ferris Bueller’s best friend’s father’s most prized possession was candy red and gorgeous.  When it made its slow plunge off a ledge after being battered, Ferrari enthusiasts worldwide shed a tear.

1891 DeLorean DMC12
Maybe one of the most classic movie cars of all time, the DeLorean starred in Back To The Future with Michael J. Fox.  It was able to break the law of quantum physics with a modified flux capacitor to travel through time at 88 mph.  The ill-fated Irish sports car had a good run.

Ford 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
This car, American muscle defined, starred in the film Gone in 60 seconds with Nicholas Cage in 2000.  The Mustang named ‘Eleanor’ in the film had 360-hp and in one scene launches 30 feet in the air over 15 feet of cars to land intact on the other side.  WOW

1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
This car was a super smart, crime-fighting machine built to protect its driver, (a young David Hasseloff) in the TV series Knight Rider.  The car KITT was backed by an ‘Alpha Circuit’, which only the producers of the show know where it came from or how it made KITT speak.

There are countless movies with unforgettable cars.  What are some of your favorites?
